NASHOBA VALLEY VOICE/ANNE O'CONNOR
During World Way II, many local boys answered their country's call to arms. The Home Town Committee kept in touch with service members from West Groton and North Shirley, sending cards, newsletters and boxes of gifts around the world. Letters written back to the committee, chaired by Mrs. Elliot Blood, were found on the floor of a closet after she died. Marine Richard Cleary and Navy recruiter Joseph Cleary were cousins of the Blood family and lived across the street from the slaughterhouse.
